We are Working Together to Strengthen North Carolina’s Youth and Families! The primary purpose of this position is to provide mental health services for juveniles assigned to a Youth Development Center and/or Juvenile Detention Center. These services include, but are not limited to, mental status examinations, diagnostic evaluations and behavioral assessments, behavioral programming, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention and direct counseling services at an advanced level. Will provide training as needed. The position is responsible for providing the following services in Juvenile Justice facilities as assigned:

New Admission Screening and Evaluation:

Perform evidence-based mental health screening for assigned new admissions. Document completion of the screening in NC-JOIN. Complete a clinical interview and mental status exam. Complete a mental health evaluation report. Document results in the Mental Health Practice Management System.

Mental Health Treatment:

Complete a mental health treatment plan for each assigned new admission.

Criminogenic Needs Identification and Targeting:

Identify prominent dynamic factors that affect the youth risk for recidivism within 30 days of admission.

Training/Continuing Education:

Provide Training to staff as needed, attend continuing education seminars/workshop commensurate with scope and requirements of professional practice, complete required trainings in

Necessary Special Qualification:

Applicants for positions designated as Juvenile Justice Officers are subject to and must meet the hiring and training standards established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, as defined in Title 12, Chapter 9 of the NC Administrative Code, by the statutory authority of GS 17C. Selected applicant must attend and successfully complete and pass the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program. The certification requires four weeks to complete and is comprised of classroom and physically demanding training. This training is carried out at regional training centers and requires consecutive overnight stays. In addition, the selected candidate must: Have or be able to obtain required documentation for certification as a Juvenile Justice Officer (i.e. a diploma).
