DESCRIPTION
The Albany County Department of Mental Health is seeking applications for Mental Health Clinician II. This position involves responsibility for administering and coordinating behavioral health services for clients within the community, as well as linking patients to treatment or transporting patients. This worker will carry a caseload if applicable, and duties will require helping clients with social, emotional, and related difficulties to better manage their behavioral health disorders. The work performed is to help clients adjust to their old or new environment. The Mental Health Clinician II’s work is performed under the general supervision of a su- pervisor. As distinguished from a Mental Health Clinician I, a Mental Health Clinician II may, in certain instances, assist in the supervision of a Social Worker/ Mental Health Clinician in the absence of a supervisor or training for internal and external community partners. This is distinguished from a Supervising Social Worker/Mental Health Clinician who will provide supervision as a part of their daily role. Additionally, in concert with or in place of a supervisor, a Mental Health Clinician II may assist with the management/coordination of care for complex/high-need patients, coordination of meetings, scheduling of staff, and the collection and analysis of relevant clinical data. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EITHER A.Possession of a NY State certification as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) AND six (6) months of profes- sional experience in social work in a community mental health program; OR B.Possession of NY State certification as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) AND one and one-half (1 & ½) years of experience providing services to persons with behavioral health issues post master’s degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
1.If qualifying under A. above with an LMSW (open-competitive) or as a Staff Social Worker (promo), must possess certification as an LCSW within three (3) years of appointment and throughout employment thereafter. 2.At time of appointment and throughout employment, successful clearance of criminal background facilitated through New York State Office of Mental Health. 3.At time of appointment and throughout employment, successful clearance from the State Central Registry in the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs (background investigations are conducted by the appointing authority). 4.At time of appointment and throughout employment, possession of a valid New York State driver’s license. The HELP Program is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the HELP Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a “HELP Program” position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying positions filled through the HELP Program will be granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive exam.
