QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree in counseling, education and or related field or 2 years experience working with families in crisis preferred. Experience in networking with other human service agencies and the ability to work as a team player as well as independently. Must have well developed oral and written skills. Must have a valid New York State Driver License. Must pass criminal background check.
GENERAL DUTIES
Assist Program Director in the daily operation of the shelter. May include travel to locations throughout the county providing services to the victims of domestic violence while assisting them in the day-to-day effort to stay safe. Provide individual support counseling and group counseling for sheltered families in a non-judgmental and non-threatening environment. On-call required
ACTIVITIES
Provide individual support counseling and facilitate weekly group meetings Assist victims by identifying goals and actions necessary to achieve such goals Assist individuals to access remedies and enforce their rights through the family and criminal justice system. Assist in the preparation and filing of family court petitions. Provide support throughout the court system Provide support to families through regular home visits monitoring progress towards goals and modifying plans as needed Validate and support the children who have been or have witnessed domestic violence by providing individual support counseling Perform follow-up services to determine status of past clients case and provide further assistance if needed Maintain case records in compliance with state and agency mandates, including all agency documents and reports Provide crisis intervention services Perform advocacy services through collateral agency contacts Develop and implement structured recreational activities for families and individuals Process Orders of Protection and other required documents Work cooperatively with staff and families in promoting goal accomplishments Responsible for promoting and maintaining the care of the residence and/or the transitional apartment building Ensure safety of all residents, and enforce shelter rules and regulations Promote fundraising activities with staff May be asked to move furniture, pick up donations, unload trucks, as directed. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Program Director These duties and activities are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative only. Physical Demands Reaches to secure files, reports, folders etc. required to complete tasks Required to drive agency vehicle Required to talk in person and by telephone to obtain and interpret detailed information Able to sit and stand for long periods of time Able to climb stairs Able to use writing equipment both manual and electronic Required to lift up to 50 lbs.
