We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Counselor/Psychologist to join our medical team at the Gurwin Center. The position is that of an individual contractor with the medical team providing care to our residents. The ideal candidate will provide essential mental health support to our residents, helping them navigate emotional, psychological, and social challenges in a nursing home environment. This role requires a commitment to promoting mental well-being and improving the quality of life for our elderly population.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for residents to identify emotional, psychological, and social needs Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and resident goals Provide individual and group counseling sessions to residents, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing staff, social workers, and physicians, to ensure holistic care for residents Monitor and document residents’ progress and adjust treatment plans as needed Stay current with best practices in geriatric mental health and participate in ongoing training and professional development
Qualifications & Requirements:
Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) or a PhD in Psychology (required) Previous experience in a mental health counseling role, preferably in a geriatric or long-term care setting Strong understanding of mental health disorders common in the elderly population Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Knowledge of relevant regulations and ethical standards in mental health care Ability to perform tasks that may include standing, walking, sitting, and assisting residents as needed. Capability to respond to emergency situations effectively.
