Job Responsibilities
With our Agency’s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Spartanburg Office, 250 Dewey Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29303
For the purpose of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program. The Counselor II will act as an Employment Specialist, providing intensive assessment, career counseling, and employment services integrated with Employer relationship building. This is a collaborative program with SC Vocational Rehabilition Department, serving individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and open for services at Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center. The position goal is to help individuals seek, secure, and maintain employment.
Promotes program awareness within the community through outreach and engagement activities aimed at local employers, community partners, and individuals participating in Mental Health Services.
Collaborates with clients to complete program

  • specific assessments and Career Profiles, to identify preferred employment areas of interest, to identify potential jobs.

Maintain all aspects of client IPS records, meets Agency deadlines and requirements, adheres to all SCDMH Quality Assurance standards, and complies with Corporate Compliance standards.
Attends staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and staff development opportunities to increase knowledge and skills.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.

A bachelor’s degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
