Credentials:
Licensed School Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or licensed Mental Health Provider (MHP), or significant progress towards achieving licensure as an LPC or MHP and a commitment to complete the licensure process. A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children with behavior and emotional issues is required. Experience working within a school setting is preferred.
Other Qualifications:
Experience collaborating with parents, school, and community professionals. Demonstrate empathy for and understanding of the dynamics of families with students with behavioral and emotional issues. Respect and protect the confidentiality rights of parents and children.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to see, hear and move quickly enough to provide for the safety and instructional needs of children; Must be able to articulate clearly; Must be physically active and interactive throughout the school day (i.e., be able to stand for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, do light lifting, push, pull, step and have good finger dexterity, etc.). Must have emotional coping skills appropriate for the management of student behavior. Must tolerate environmental smells and substances commonly associated with children and educational institutions.
Essential Job Functions:
The primary role of the School Counselor/ Mental Wellness Counselor is to implement a comprehensive school counseling program and collaborate with school-based student support teams to identify the developmental, behavioral, and mental health needs of students, provide direct intervention, and coordinate care for those students referred by the support team. They will provide individual and small group mental health counseling and case management for students who do not respond to Tier I and/or Tier II behavioral supports, i.e., students who require more individualized and intensive mental health support to be successful in school.
More specific job functions include:
School Counselor Duties Work in collaboration with school administration to implement programs that result in increased academic development, college and career readiness, and social/emotional development. Organize, coordinate, and evaluate individual student data to develop and maintain effective instruction/intervention for students. Mental Wellness Counselor Duties Collaborate with the school-based student support team and use multiple data points to identify students who are at-risk for externalizing and internalizing behaviors and would benefit from small group intervention. Identify a targeted intervention goal for each small group. Provide goal-directed small group intervention for students who are identified as at-risk (Tier II). Collaborate with the school-based student support team to develop comprehensive behavior support plans. Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention for students and share outcomes with the support team. Collaborate with the school-based student support team to modify goals/intervention as needed. Communicate progress with caregivers and link families to available community-based resources. Collaborate with the school-based student support team and use multiple data points to identify students whose externalizing and internalizing behaviors indicate the need for more individualized and intensive intervention. Develop a treatment plan and identify clear goals for treatment. Provide goal-directed individual intervention for each student (Tier III). Collaborate with the school-based student support team to develop comprehensive behavior support plans. Provide case management services for students with complex needs. Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention for students and share outcomes with the support team. Collaborate with the school-based student support team to modify goals/intervention as needed. Communicate progress with caregivers and link families to available community resources. 3.Provide training for principals, assistant principals, teachers and other staff regarding mental health, trauma, student wellness, staff wellness, de-escalation strategies, crisis preventionintervention, etc. In addition to essential job functions listed above, perform other duties as assigned.
Staff Relationship:
Reports directly to the Coordinator of Behavior Support.

Ten (10) months, salary and benefits set annually. Exempt.
