POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides direct and indirectclinical services to all patients requiring behavioral healthintervention presenting in the Manchester and Rockville GeneralHospital Emergency Departments. Responsible for providingage-appropriate assessment and treatment to a diverse populationwith multiple needs. Core skills include crisis triage andassessment, individual and family intervention, case management,community collaboration, patient/family education, insuranceverification and collaboration and treatment planning and placementto appropriate level of care. As skill sets permit, may provideflexible coverage to another service within Behavioral Health on ashort-term basis.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

Masters Degree andlicensure in a Behavioral Health field is required as LicensedClinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed APRN or PhD or equivalent.

Must receive certification in CPI de-escalation techniques within 6months of hire into the role and maintain active certification. CPItraining is provided by

ECHN. COMPETENCIES

This position requiresstrong clinical skills including a demonstrated strong teamorientation. Strong written as well as verbal communication usingthe English language is absolutely essential. Computer competencywith basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook isessential. Strong knowledge of psychiatric and risk assessment isessential. Knowledge of abuse and neglect reporting mandates, dutyto warn mandates, knowledge of community-based resources andexperience with Managed Care Organizations are all desirable.

Flexibility in approach so that service specific as well as overallsystem needs can be met is critical. Must be able to functioneffectively and independently in a work environment wheremultitasking is necessary. Level of care age specific competenciesis required. Must be capable of taking swift and efficient action,including patient restraint when responding to patient emergencycodes.

Interviews patients in a timely manner while reviewing allpertinent clinical information, contacting appropriate clinicalproviders and may include family during interview based on theclinical judgment of the clinician as evidenced by case and chartreviews. Functions as a behavioral health resource to emergencydepartment staff, patients, families and community resources asevidenced by direct observation. Demonstrates flexibility andwillingness to meeting the departments needs for scheduling andcoverage for the two Emergency Departments as evidenced by directobservation. Exhibits the ability to multi-task while continuing tomove patients through the system effectively and appropriatelymeeting their clinical needs as evidenced through directobservation. Is conscientious, productive and fulfillsresponsibilities without reminders as evidenced by directobservation, and chart audit. Exercises good judgment in seekinghelpand /or while acting independently as evidenced by directobservation and individual and group supervision. Contacts ManagedCare Organizations negotiating authorization for appropriate levelof care and documents efforts as evidenced by chart reviews.

Completes all requested/required forms, letters and documentationrequirements with accuracy and thoroughness in a timely manner andin accordance with JCAHO, Managed Care and other standards withwhich the Program must comply as evidenced by chart audit.

Effectively uses psychological and physical management techniquesto manage violent or potentially violent situations consistent withPhysical Management Training (PMT), as evidenced by peer andsupervisor observation. Participates in Early Response codes andDr. Strong codes.
