Colfax, NC Objective The IBHS Non-Clinical Health & Wellness Advocate will support the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) and other Reserve Components by providing behavioral health services as part of the Integrated Behavioral Health System (IBHS). This role involves engaging Service members and families to offer crisis intervention, therapeutic support, case management, and connections to appropriate military, federal, state, and community resources. Background This position is part of the NCNG Integrated Behavioral Health System (IBHS), which assists Service members and their families by delivering professional support through the IBHS Help Line and direct in-person engagement. Health & Wellness Advocates do not have a designated office and are expected to work nomadically within various armories and units to maintain strong relationships with personnel.
Key Responsibilities General Duties:
Engage Service members and families within NCNG armories and Reserve Component units to provide behavioral health resources. Ensure compliance with Privacy Act and HIPAA regulations, maintaining client confidentiality and professional ethics. Document all cases in the IBHS Electronic Medical Record (EMR) via MS Teams Closed Channel. Stay current on state, military regulations, and IBHS SOPs to align with best practices. Attend
NCNG IBHS
Continuous Education Events/Training, including research participation and performance improvement studies. Assist Service members with consultations and referrals to Military Treatment Facilities (MTF), VA, TRICARE providers, and non-network providers.
Daily Responsibilities:
Provide behavioral health advocacy and intervention in armories and field locations. Offer case management services, ensuring Service members receive proper follow-up care. Ensure proper maintenance of all client records and document case progress.
Scheduled & Periodic Duties:
Monthly:
Visit NCNG facilities to communicate available IBHS services.
Quarterly:
Conduct Critical Incident Stress Debriefings for requesting units.
As Needed:
Provide Psycho-Education Briefings at events such as Yellow Ribbon, Unit Orientations, and Military Funeral Honors.
As Needed:
Support commanders and leadership by offering consultation services regarding behavioral health needs and appropriate referrals.
As Needed:
Serve as a liaison to external agencies and community resources for enhanced rehabilitation services. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in behavioral health or social science field. Three (3) years post-graduate experience in a social work setting if a Master’s degree is held, with at least one (1) year in a military setting. Five (5) years post-graduate experience in a social work setting if a Bachelor’s degree is held, with at least one (1) year in a military setting. Work Conditions & Availability Work hours: Monday – Friday, 07:00-17:30, except recognized US holidays and emergency closures. Occasional weekend work required to support Drilling Units and NCNG-related events. Must provide coverage for IBHS Hotline services, available 24/7.
