Position Overview:

The Assistant Imam will play a vital role in supporting the Imam in all spiritual and community-related activities at BICC. This position focuses on outreach and education, particularly in nurturing new Muslims and developing engaging programs for youth. The Assistant Imam will embody and promote Islamic teachings, ensuring a welcoming environment for all members of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Support Imam Duties:

Assist the Imam in leading daily prayers, delivering sermons (khutbahs), and providing spiritual guidance as needed. Perform Imam duties in the Imam’s absence, including leading prayers and offering counseling.

New Muslims Program:

Develop and implement programs tailored for new Muslims, including classes on Islamic beliefs, practices, and community integration. Provide mentorship and support to new converts, helping them navigate their faith journey.

Youth Programs:

Create and oversee educational and recreational programs for youth that align with Islamic values. Foster a safe and engaging environment for youth to explore their faith and build a sense of community.

Educational Participation:

Participate in the center’s educational programs, including Quranic studies, Islamic history, and personal development sessions. Assist in organizing workshops, lectures, and community events to promote Islamic education.

Community Engagement:

Actively engage with the community through outreach initiatives and interfaith activities.

Continuous Learning:

Stay updated on contemporary issues facing the Muslim community in America and be able to provide relevant guidance. Pursue ongoing education in Islamic studies to enhance personal knowledge and community support.

Qualifications:

Islamic Knowledge:

Strong understanding of Islamic teachings, jurisprudence, and theology.

Quranic Skills:

Proficient in Quran recitation and memorization of portions of the Quran.

Language Skills:

Fluency in English; proficiency in Arabic is a plus.

Cultural Familiarity:

Knowledge of American culture and societal issues as they relate to the Muslim community.

Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse groups, especially youth and new Muslims.

Educational Background:

Formal education in Islamic studies or related fields preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements:

Strong commitment to the principles of Islam and the mission of BICC. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Background check and reference checks are required.
