Chaplain (part-time) Seafarer’s Friend Portsmouth, NH 03801 Chaplain Portsmouth, NH Part-Time | Hourly, based on experience Are you looking for a chaplaincy role that’s meaningful, adventurous, and deeply relational? This is a unique opportunity to serve as a Chaplain to international seafarers —men and women who work at sea and often go months without seeing family, stepping on land, or connecting with a supportive community. Since 1827, Seafarer’s Friend , a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization rooted in the Christian faith, has extended friendship and support to international seafarers arriving in New England ports. Through ship visits and shore-based care, we provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support to crew members far from home. We’re seeking a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain to serve in Portsmouth, NH , and become part of a long-standing maritime ministry.

Key Responsibilities:
Visit ships in port and build relationships with crew members Offer spiritual care through prayer, conversation, and presence Provide SIM card and internet services, transportation, and personal shopping Support seafarers with needs related to isolation, stress, or unfair treatment Maintain ongoing communication with ship officers and crew before, during, and after port visits Refer serious concerns to appropriate authorities or advocacy services Engage in outreach to local churches, businesses, and community partners Document visits and activities regularly
Qualifications:
Chaplaincy experience (required) Strong communication and relationship-building skills Tech savvy—comfortable navigating smartphones and apps Experience using Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.) Able to climb ship gangways (up to 45° incline) and carry small packages Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a TWIC card Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently Fluency in multiple languages—such as Tagalog, Russian, Hindi, Turkish, or other languages frequently spoken by seafarers—is a strong advantage.
Compensation:
Hourly, based on experience
