Next Generations Pastor Job Description The Next Generations Pastor will oversee ministries from birth through graduation. He will provide oversight to the volunteers and ministry teams serving in children’s ministry (birth – 5th grade) to include Preschool/Nursery, AWANA, Children’s Church, and Vacation Bible School, while providing direct, weekly leadership and instruction to our student ministry (6th – 12th grade).
Primary Qualifications:
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- An ability to articulate a call to student ministry.
- A willingness to support the mission, vision, and ministry philosophy of First Baptist Church.
- Agree with the traditional Southern Baptist belief contained within the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- A willingness to submit to personal background checks and inquiries.
- Strong leadership and relational skills.
- Bachelor’s degree with a commitment to pursue a seminary degree.
- Display a genuine passion for the next generation with experience overseeing children’s ministries and leading student ministries.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills.
General Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and manage local and regional mission trips, student conference participation, fellowship opportunities, and other age-appropriate activities.
- Plan and manage regular Wednesday student ministry discipleship programming and other educational opportunities.
- Facilitate student ministry programming (weekly meetings, small group Bible studies, outreaches, recreational activities, mission trips, etc.).
- Develop programs and ministries that consider the budget constraints of parents and our students and the varied interests of all the members of our student ministry and their families.
- Prepare and oversee the student ministry budget.
- Coordinate budget requests and needs with all program areas of the Next-Gen ministry.
- Coordinate the Next-Gen ministry in conjunction with the other ministries of the church.
- Recruit, train, and involve adult sponsors who can assist in the ministry and mentoring of students and children.
- Build relationships with and minister to the parents and family of the students.
- Maintain a consistent presence on the campuses of the schools where our students attend.
- Manage social media and online contact to help connect to students in an appropriate way.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly Church Council meetings.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports regarding the entire Next-Gen ministry for Church Council meetings or other forums as directed by the Senior Pastor.
- Maintain regular contact with our students’ parents through various means, including but not limited to email, parent meetings, letters, social media, phone calls, in-home visits, etc.
- Manage the day-to-day and long-range financial, administrative, and human resource aspects of the Next-Gen Ministry.
- Assist in creating innovative ways to reach those who are unchurched in the community
- Work with the staff and congregation to achieve the mission and vision of the church.
- Assist the Senior Pastor in offering pastoral care to families/individuals within the church and community.
- Assist in preaching, teaching, leading services, officiating funerals, officiating weddings, and making hospital visits.
- Serve as on-call pastor in rotation with other pastors.
- Perform other pastoral duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
