Purpose:

The Chaplaincy program provides rabbinic, pastoral, and educational services to unaffiliated Jews in the metro area.

GOALS:

Serve as Ambassador for JF&CS and the Jewish Community Provide pastoral care, life cycle ceremonies, Jewish learning and holiday celebrations for Jewish individuals and families in hospitals, living facilities, hospices and homes throughout the metro-Atlanta area Empower facility staff to support Jewish patients and residents in their care with access to Jewish spiritual and cultural experiences Serve as a source of pastoral support alongside clinical team members in the event of community crisis responses Provide pastoral care for members of Atlanta’s Jewish Community by facilitating support/processing groups for grief and loss Provide outreach and communication about JF&CS programs and resources to members of the Atlanta Jewish Community Serve as a resource for pulpit rabbis to be able to connect unaffiliated Jewish patients and/or residents to the JF&CS Chaplain

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advocate for JF&CS programs and services, as well as referrals to partnering agencies when appropriate Visit hospitalized Jewish patients and Jewish residents in care facilities on a scheduled and as-needed basis Initiate and maintain communications with independent and assisted living facility program/activity staff to help encourage and support Jewish activities by disseminating a quarterly chaplaincy newsletter, conducting Jewish learning and holiday programs and distributing holiday-themed goody bags Be available for on-call support and visits for after-hours emergency needs including during Shabbat/Holidays Manage the Indigent Burial Program by coordinating with Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care to assess individuals for financial eligibility; provide-pre-burial consultations to families and officiate at indigent burials Present workshops and teach classes in various settings in the Jewish and wider community Present Jewish Cultural Sensitivity Trainings to Hospital Chaplains, CPE students and facility staff Collaborate with Aviv and Clinical Staff to support their Jewish clients’ spiritual needs, including grief counseling in the event of community crises Facilitate Bereavement and other support groups (i.e., Family Estrangement) Assess, orient and support a team of prospective and established volunteers who visit Jewish patients at specific hospitals and/or other facilities Facilitate life cycle ceremonies as appropriate for unaffiliated community members, newcomers or out-of-towners who contact the chaplain directly or are referred by local clergy Arrange for coverage of duties when unavailable, including but not limited to sickness & vacation Track and manage data sets and complete Agency, grant and other reports as requested Provide trainings and consultations to JF&CS Staff regarding Jewish customs and rituals upon request Respond to communications in a timely manner, to include email, voice messages, and postal communications Adhere to Ethical Conduct, Confidentiality, and all other Personnel Policies and Procedures Attend Agency meetings Commitment to honor and maintain duties of confidentiality and loyalty to JF&CS as well as HIPPA regulations Participate in supervisory meetings designed to support program goals, strategies and impact

Requirements:

Rabbinic ordination with pastoral counseling experience 5-10 years working in the Jewish Community Clinical training and experience preferred but not required Must have reliable Transportation Ability to travel throughout Metro Atlanta as needed Excellent oral and written communication skills Capacity to be self-directed and a team player Ability to manage multiple components simultaneously Flexible with respect to working hours, including over Shabbat and during holidays

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand at hospitals and facilities Extensive driving is required EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE

Rabbinic Ordination 5-10 years working in the Jewish Community Member of the Atlanta Rabbinical Association Experience as a pastoral counselor Candidates who are selected for employment must successfully complete a pre-employment background screening as well as a pre-employment drug screening. Employment will be contingent upon the satisfactory completion of both the background check and the drug screening. Additionally, if applicable, tuberculosis testing (TB) and fingerprinting may also be required.
