On-Call Chaplain, PRN Description:
This is an on-call position for 1-2 weeks per month. On-call rotation to include nights and weekend coverage. Provides spiritual and pastoral support to patients, family members, visitors, and employees and provides
supportive services to the community.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Provides spiritual care and counseling to patients, families and visitors, hospital staff and
community.
2. Provides appropriate assistance to patients, family members.
3. Conducts worship services.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelors degree from a recognized college or university and a Masters degree in Theology, Divinity,
Religion, Counseling, or related field required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum of two (2) years pastoral experience required for On Call.
Minimum of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education required. Eccelsiastical endorsement from the
appropriate denomination required. Ordination preferred. Previous hospital experience preferred.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW
Certification or certification eligible by pastoral care organization preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides spiritual care and counseling to patients, families and visitors, hospital staff and
community.
Visits patients, family members and visitors who have requested a visit or who have been
referred.
Directs patients, family members, visitors or employees to additional resources or referrals as
needed.
Documents patient visits and objective empirical data important to the overall well being of
the patient.
Protects confidentiality of everyone to whom spiritual care and counseling is provided.
Provides support to patients, families, visitors and staff during times of crisis (i.e. deaths,
Code Blue, ED trauma, disasters, etc.).
Assists community clergy as appropriate.
2. Provides appropriate assistance to patients and family members.
Listens to patient and family concerns. Stays with families, as requested, assisting in
answering questions during Code Blues or other crisis.
Calls appropriate individuals as needed other family members, clergy, and friends.
Assists family with the grieving process.
3. Conducts worship services.
Conducts memorial or funeral services for patients or employees as requested and available.
Officiates wedding ceremonies for employees or for patients when requested and available
and deemed appropriate.
Conducts infant blessing and baptismal ceremonies when requested or on behalf of patients.

Ability to work as a member of a team.
