Job Summary:
The Lead Medical Assistant performs the duties of a Medical Assistant; as well as overseeing the daily processes of the Urgent Care Clinic including patient registration, rooming, and routine clinic operations. The Lead coordinates shift activities, workflow, and daily operations and ensures compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Performs the duties of a Medical Assistant. Orients, trains, and oversees the Medical Assistants per organizational standards to ensure safe, effective, customer-focused operations. Completes and monitors daily/weekly work schedule to ensure that shifts are covered according to volume/work demands, with appropriately trained staff who can function without direct supervision. Holds staff accountable and coaches when appropriate. Partners with leadership when performance counseling is required. Ensures daily, weekly, and monthly required tasks are completed; to include lab QC and temperature checks, room inventory and stocking, completing end of day deposits, and reviewing inventory for expiration dates. Assists leadership in monitoring supply and staffing budgets to ensure cost-effective operations within authorized budget allocations. Reviews and corrects registration errors in applicable work queue. Reconciles daily cash drawers and bank deposits. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in business or healthcare related field preferred. Medical Assistant certification required. AHA BLS required. Experience with patient registration and rooming required. Computer skills relevant to this position include experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, workday and Electronic Medical Record required. Epic EHR, insurance claims, and patient billing experience preferred.
