We serve the communities of Norwood, Westwood, and Walpole. Our parish is attracting lots of young families, and we have a thriving Faith Formation program, Music Ministry, history of strong social justice ministries, and culture of willing and capable volunteers. We are seeking a dynamic and faith-filled full-time Pastoral Associate to support the work of our parish through leadership and nurturing of current ministries, as well as the opportunity to engage parishioners in new ways to live out their vocations and their faith.
Summary of Position:
The Pastoral Associate is a full-time role on-site at the parish in Norwood, working closely with the Pastor and parish staff, to bring to life and support opportunities for discipleship and service through our parish ministries, liturgies, prayer, and programs. The position also involves walking with parishioners through moments of joy and sorrow, preparing them for baptisms, weddings, and funerals, providing counsel, comfort, and direction. This is a position for someone with a desire to spread the Gospel, a love and respect of liturgy, the ability to inspire and help build our community, in possession of excellent organizational and leadership skills, and with a collaborative spirit.
Responsibilities:
A. Worship Direct parish worship program in collaboration with the Pastor and Music Director. Recruit, coordinate, train, and support those involved in liturgical ministries. Coordinate planning of funeral liturgies, assisting families in making liturgical choices, communicating with presider and Music Director, and providing pastoral care to the bereaved as necessary. Serve as leader of prayer when appropriate. Prepare volunteers for leadership roles as needed. Participate actively in the worship life of the community. Is a visible participant and welcoming presence at Sunday masses, parish events and programs. B. Sacramental Preparation Direct the OCIA team and serve as a resource to parishioners seeking information about the program. Assist in preparation of candidates. Coordinate and schedule Baptisms and participate in teaching presentations as needed. Opportunity to reinstate Baptismal Preparation Team. Collaborate with Directors of Faith Formation and Music to prepare liturgies for the celebration of First Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation. Coordinate preparation for sacrament of Marriage by meeting with engaged couples, in collaboration with Music Director and Presider. C. Ongoing Adult Faith Formation Provide opportunities for prayer and renewal for liturgical ministers to assist them in their ongoing spiritual and ministerial formation. Collaborate with parish leadership to identify needs and create new ministry opportunities. Develop and implement strategies for outreach, evangelization, and community engagement in collaboration with Pastor and parish staff. Organize parish-wide and small group opportunities for spiritual growth, education, and community-building. Develop or assist with parish retreats or other spiritual programs. Develop or assist with social justice and other outward-looking ministries. D. Coordination and Administration Coordinate/oversee the schedule of preparation for all liturgical ministries. Coordinate the planning and implementation of the aesthetic décor of the worship space, including floral arrangements, liturgical furnishings etc. in collaboration with environmental sacristans, the pastor, and the parish staff. Oversee the purchase and maintenance of liturgical supplies and resources. Communicate information as needed, including content for the bulletin, website, social media, and parish publications. Maintain relationships with Archdiocesan offices and stay current with policies, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications:
In compliance with archdiocesan policy, an individual serving as Pastoral Associate will be certified as such by the Archdiocese of Boston. The Pastoral Associate will engage in ongoing professional and faith formation as specified by the guidelines of the archdiocese and will seek recertification as required. St. Timothy Parish is willing to consider candidates without certification and is also willing to contribute toward any education, degrees, and trainings needed to complete certification. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in theology, Pastoral Ministry, or related field strongly preferred. Experience in parish ministry, pastoral leadership, or a related role. Practicing Catholic in good standing with a love for the Church and commitment to its mission. Strong leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Creative, collaborative, and flexible with the ability to inspire and lead volunteers of all ages. Proficient and facile with office software and technology. Willingness and ability to learn new tools as they enter parish life. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as parish life requires.
