This individual will develop and oversee a holistic ministry for children and their families, focusing on Christian education, spiritual formation and faith development. This position involves leadership, collaboration, and engagement with both staff and lay volunteers to nurture the faith of children and promote their involvement in church life. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Program Development and Supervision Direct and supervise the children’s Sunday School program, including selecting curriculum, purchasing supplies, and recruiting and training teachers. Oversee the nursery ministry by supervising the lead nursery worker, paid staff, and volunteers; provide training, and procure supplies. Supervise the children’s music ministry staff and volunteers, providing vision and training, serving as a liaison between the music ministry and the church staff, and scheduling opportunities for children to lead in worship. Provide support and guidance to volunteers for seasonal children’s events and ministries, including Vacation Bible School and Monthly Activities. Develop and offer educational opportunities and training for parents to support the spiritual growth of children in the church. Worship Leadership Organize and facilitate opportunities for children to participate in worship experiences, including special services and ongoing age-appropriate worship activities. Direct the Children’s Church program. Administration and Budget Management Collaborate with the Children’s Council to develop an annual budget, submit it to the Finance Committee, and manage children’s ministry resources effectively. Maintain clear and consistent communication with parents, children, staff, and the congregation regarding children’s ministry programs and opportunities. Outreach and Evaluation Identify and implement special outreach opportunities for children and families in collaboration with Children’s Council. Regularly assess existing programs and develop new initiatives in coordination with Children’s Council. Volunteer Recruitment and Support Recruit and train capable leadership from the congregation and community for children’s ministry programs. Collaborate with the Children’s Council to provide strategic direction for children’s ministry. Ensure effective communication regarding children’s ministry across all staff and congregation. Collaboration and Community Involvement Attend staff meetings, leadership meetings, and other church events, collaborating with other staff members to integrate children’s ministry with the broader life of the church. Qualifications Education and Experience Undergraduate degree in Christian Education or Childhood Development (preferred). Experience in leading a successful children’s ministry program (preferred). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understanding of The United Methodist Church,history, and beliefs (preferred). Ability to connect with children and adults on spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and social levels. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated strategic thinking, leadership, and organizational abilities. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively. Primary gifts in leadership, discernment, encouragement, and teaching. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
