• There are six categories that make up the Children’s Minister’s responsibilities: 1
• Prayer
• pray daily for children, parents, and volunteers
• lead prayer gatherings with children, parents, and volunteers
• teach children, parents, and volunteers how to pray 2
• Relationships
• develop relationships with children, parents, and volunteers by visiting in various activities
• be at FHUMC church building by 9am Sunday mornings and stay until at least 11am to 1) pay attention to new families that have children, 2) recruit volunteers, 3) visit with children & parents
• involve pastors in any situations that would need further attention during visiting.
• at a minimum of four times a year go to the 8am service
• so that families at that service will get to know you. 3
• Discipleship
• Model to children, parents, and volunteers a commitment to Jesus Christ through your words, actions, and activities
• Have a mentor that will be an example and a sounding board
• invite children to participate in the ministry by helping in volunteer positions
• formulate discipleship opportunities for children to learn from scripture, lessons, fellowship, and mission. Specifically you are to organize curriculum for Sunday School and Jr. bAsIC (Brothers & Sisters in Christ). 4
• Communication
• weekly emails (text messages) about children’s activities
• communicate with Secretary about information for weekly Messenger & Bulletin
• communicate with Audio-Visual Coordinator about information for the overhead
• post weekly on the FHUMC Facebook page 5
• Volunteers
• recruit volunteers and organize training them in Safe Sanctuaries.
• discern with volunteers how they would be best suited for the ministry of children
• coordinate volunteers so that they are utilized effectively in the ministry of children
• follow-up with volunteers on how their unique calling is being lived out through children’s ministry 6
• Ministry coordination
• coordinate Mission outings, Fun outings, and Spiritual outings for children, parents, and volunteers.
• coordinate children participating in the life of the broader church
• church work days, worship, volunteer opportunities.
• work with pastor at coordinating learning about the Bible and Communion
• coordinate with children’s council
• coordinate the gathering of all forms
• be at all staff meetings (if this cannot happen, please discuss this with SPRC)

Job Type:

• Part-time position. We understand that this position can sometimes involve a lot of work during Christmas & VBS. Because of that we will pay you an extra amount of pay during special projects that are approved by the Staff Parish Relations Committee. In your regular hours, we would encourage you to have consistent and intentional hours so that there are healthy parameters to work within.
• You will be paid twice a month.
• Once a year you will have a job evaluation done by the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
• It is expected that you participate in continuing education every year.
