Conducts spiritual care assessment of patients, medical staff referral, or patient request and provision of care as determined appropriate. Provides spiritual/emotional support to staff and physicians as needed. Coordinates interfaith community visitation programs. Participates in educational programs and workshops with community parishes, organizations, schools and the community at large. Participates on the Cheshire Medical Center Ethics Committee. Leads on site based memorial and prayer services for patients, family, friends and staff, as requested. Leads spiritual crisis intervention
- including but not limited to multiple trauma events, participation on crisis intervention team, code team response, community disaster team, and critical incident stress debriefing. As an integrated member of the hospital staff, accurate charts in the patient’s medical record. Provides spiritual/emotional counseling and referrals for patients, families, medical staff and community
- addressing such issues as:
- Grief
- loss (individual, group, institutional)
- Coping with illness
- Transitional issues
- Making difficult decisions
- Finding meaning and hope
- Crisis Intervention Hires, trains and supervises on-call chaplain(s) in order to provide 24 hour/ 7day week Chaplain coverage.
In conjunction with the Vice President/Patient Experience, develops and achieves quarterly/annual budgetary and financial goals as to pertain to Pastoral Care. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Masters of Divinity or Theology from accredited theological institution. Demonstrated educational experience in theological studies or the equivalent. 3-5 years of experience in a parish or institutional ministry. Strong leadership and/or program development experience, or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Certified (preferred) or in process to complete certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Neshama Association of Jewish Chaplains, or a comparable cognate group. Clinical Pastoral Education (2 units minimum) or equivalent and/or the agreement to obtain at least 2 units within 48 months of beginning the position. Ordination or other recognition of ministry relevant to applicant’s affiliation, and endorsement for Chaplaincy by an appropriate denominational endorsing body required.
