Summary:
An 18 hour a week position (annual salary range $15,000-16,000 plus remuneration for weddings and funerals). Serving St. Patrick’s Church in Ravena, part of the Hudson Valley Vicariate West Network of Parishes. The Pastoral Associate is responsible for providing liturgically appropriate music for parish liturgies and events. The successful candidate will plan and coordinate a comprehensive music program, following norms of the Diocese of Albany and the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, in collaboration with the pastor and other liturgical ministry leaders both in the parish and the network.
Functions/Responsibilities:
Play the organ (and piano) at weekend Masses, holy days, and sacramental celebrations. Lead the choir, cantors and/or instrumentalists at Mass and liturgical celebrations. Promote congregational singing. Select liturgically appropriate music. Plan and lead weekly rehearsals for the choir from September to June. Train, coordinate and schedule cantors and musicians. Develop and monitor the music budget. Collaborate with the pastor and liturgical ministry leaders from the parish and the network. Collaborate with the Bereavement Ministry for funerals and with the pastor and engaged couple for marriages. The Pastoral Associate for Music has right of first refusal for funerals and weddings. Chair the Prayer and Worship Committee. Create worship aids, as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and the liturgical year. Ability to adapt to evolving parish and network needs. Ability to maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with parish and network colleagues. Ability to read music. Proficiency on the organ and piano to play hymns and liturgical music. Proficiency in singing to lead the choir and congregation. Knowledge of arranging and transposing music. Basic knowledge of sound systems, sound boards, and microphone set up and use. Valid driver’s license.
