The Episcopal Diocese of New York (EDNY) encompasses over 180 worshipping communities in the boroughs of Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island in New York City; and the New York counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester. The Diocese is seeking a Canon for Lay and Clergy Formation.
Summary of Role:
Directly accountable to the Canon to the Ordinary, the Canon for Lay and Clergy Formation will work closely with the Bishop Diocesan and Commission on Ministry to oversee and redevelop all aspects of the vocational discernment process in the Diocese of New York. The Canon will also work closely with the Canon to the Ordinary, Executive Canon team, and others to resource all 180 parishes of the diocese in their call to provide Christian Formation to people of all ages and in many contexts and walks of life.
Vocational Discernment Processes duties:
Two years ago, the Bishop Diocesan convened an Ordination Task Force (OTF) that has just completed a review of the Diocesan Ordination Process. The OTF investigated the experiences of those who have been engaged in the process, from twenty years ago to today, as well as produced a detailed overview of the process for the first time. The reports on this review include many recommendations for improvements and revisions to the process.
