Job Summary:
The Chaplain provides spiritual support, pastoral care, and religious services across the community/program in alignment with the theology and practice of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). This role includes worship leadership, crisis support, educational programs, and community clergy collaboration while fostering a compassionate environment for residents, staff, and families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Worship Leadership (25%) Schedule and lead regular worship services campus-wide. Plan and facilitate special and seasonal services. Lead or participate in memorial or funeral services for residents and staff. Conduct monthly services honoring deceased residents. Pastoral Care (25%) Provide spiritual support to residents, families, and staff. Conduct home, hospital, and facility visits. Offer comfort and ministry during times of grief, illness, and personal crisis. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team by sharing spiritual insights related to resident care. Pastoral Services & Spiritual Enrichment (20%) Offer Bible studies and devotional opportunities for residents and staff. Recruit, train, and coordinate clergy and volunteers for spiritual programming. Plan and coordinate educational and spiritual development programs, including the Summer CPE program (if applicable). Church and Community Relations (15%) Collaborate with local clergy to ensure continuity of pastoral care for residents. Serve as a liaison to area congregations, promoting the spiritual ministry of the community. Build and maintain positive community partnerships to enrich pastoral outreach. Compliance and Training (10%) Follow all HIPAA privacy regulations, ensuring confidentiality for residents and staff. Attend all mandatory in-services, training sessions, and meetings. Provide exceptional customer service through compassionate and empathetic care. Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Qualifications:
Education:
Master of Divinity or Bachelor of Divinity degree required.
Credentials:
Ordained minister in the ELCA or a Full Communion Partner denomination preferred. At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required.
Experience:
Minimum three (3) years of experience in pastoral ministry.
Skills:
Proven ability to provide pastoral care in a healthcare or senior living setting. Strong collaboration skills; ability to work on interdisciplinary teams and with clergy of all faiths. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software platforms. Compassionate, tactful, and empathetic demeanor. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Respectful of diverse spiritual and cultural backgrounds. Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive tasks and physical activities, such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
