Location:
200 W Jefferson St., Pulaski, TN 38478 First United Methodist Church of Pulaski, TN is looking for a dedicated, creative, hard-working, and innovative person who has a passion for connecting people with God. This position will focus on developing, equipping, nurturing discipleship for children, youth, and adults; ensuring that all ages have opportunities to grow in faith and deepen their relationship with Christ. The Director will work collaborative with clergy, staff, and volunteers to create a culture of discipleship within First UMC. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge and an affirmation of base United Methodist theology and affirm the values and mission of First UMC Pulaski. •This position is currently grant funded for one year.•
Key Responsibilities:
1) Leadership and Vision Develop and implement a cohesive discipleship strategy that aligns with the mission and vision of First UMC
Collaborate with church leadership to create a pathway for faith formation across all age groups Work with Senior Pastor, staff, and other volunteers to implement different programming throughout the year
Work with Senior Pastor and other worship staff to plan and implement worship series for spiritual formation
Oversee spiritual formation and discipleship budget including fundraising 2) Adult Discipleship Collaborate with small group ministries, Bible Studies, and Sunday School Classes for adults Recruit, train, and support volunteer leaders for adult discipleship programs Work with Senior Pastor, staff, and other volunteers to develop resources and opportunities for spiritual growth including retreats, workshops, and mission engagement 3) Children and Youth Discipleship Collaborate with youth and children’s ministries’ staff and volunteers Recommend and implement age-appropriate, denominationally backed, and bible based curriculum
Work with volunteers and church staff to plan and implement VBS Work with volunteers and church staff to plan and implement mission and service opportunities Equip and mentor volunteer leaders, ensuring effective discipleship programming Oversee the training of First UMC’s Keeping Ministry Safe policy 4) Congregational Engagement Encourage congregation wide, including intergenerational, participation in discipleship opportunities through effective communication and engagement Develop and implement discipleship initiatives that extend beyond the walls of the church into the local community Work with the Senior Pastor and other leadership to creatively lead and engage the congregation in mission and service opportunities Work with Senior Pastor to coordinate calendar Work with Senior Pastor and other staff to update website and the church’s social media pages
Attend Church Council Meetings, staff meetings, and other pertinent meetings in their programmatic areas
Qualifications and Skills:
A deep and growing faith in Jesus Christ with a passion for spiritual formation, relationship building, and engaging people A theological understanding that aligns with United Methodist beliefs and traditions Bachelor’s degree in theology, education, or job experience in related fields
Ability to recruit, train, and mentor volunteers Experience working with multiple age groups A collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively as part of a church staff and team
