Job Summary:
Friendship Mission, Inc. is seeking compassionate and dedicated Resident Associates to join our team. As a Resident Associate, you will be responsible for routine shelter operations and resident activities, ensuring the identified needs of our residents are met. You will play a crucial role in providing a safe and secure environment by building rapport, observing behavior, and encouraging residents to engage in activities that foster character building and responsibility, helping them achieve their individual goals and move towards self-sufficiency.
Schedule:
Shifts can include early mornings, midday to night, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are typically eight (8) hours long. This is a part-time position (less than 30 hours weekly).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide general management and oversight of residents (and Soup Kitchen guests ), ensuring safety and security at all times. Manage developing situations using de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques, alerting appropriate staff as needed. Assist in the orientation (intake process) of new residents, promoting understanding of Shelter guidelines and FMI program expectations. Conduct resident and Soup Kitchen guest data collection and enter accurate data into appropriate systems. Distribute medications at appropriate times. Monitor chore time and facility cleanliness, ensuring resident rooms are cleaned and sanitized before move-in and upon exit (includes lifting cleaning products and climbing stairs). Coordinate and act as a liaison between the FMI team and residents to ensure the safety/security of residents, colleagues, and Friendship Mission. Transport residents to and from necessary appointments. Accept appropriate in-kind donations or re-direct donations, and make deliveries/pickups of inventory (shelter supplies and groceries) as needed. Monitor the facility constantly to ensure the safety of all residents, guests, and colleagues. Assist in the execution of monthly fire and evacuation procedures and prepare related documentation. Attend and participate in team meetings and in-service trainings. Facilitate distribution of residents’ personal items (e.g., bedding, toiletries). Perform any other job-related instructions/tasks given by your supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodations.
Required Abilities:
Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. (e.g., large case of bottled water, canned goods, cleaning supplies). Ability to climb stairs, drive, clean, count, and distribute prescription/over-the-counter medication. Proficiency in using a computer and basic software.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED is required. A year or more of college or one year of experience in a residential or related field is preferred.
License:
Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license.
Work Environment:
The Resident Associate works across all facilities and settings of Friendship Mission, Inc., including offices, common areas, group rooms, and resident rooms. This position also involves participation in FMI programs both on and off property and active engagement in the community as needed. Face coverings are encouraged while on Friendship Mission’s properties and/or whenever on duty.
