The Assistant Director for Residential Education has overall responsibility for creating a safe, secure, and learning-centered environment for an area of approximately 2,000 students. This position plays a major role in learning-centered and growth-oriented supervision for Residence Life Coordinators in the department. Through supervision and oversight, Residential Education is able to support a scholar practitioner and educator lens to the development of our full-time staff. Assistant Directors are committed to excellence, outreach, strong communication, and an exemplary eye for initiatives and problem solving that leads to residential student success. The Assistant Director for Residential Education reports directly to the Associate Director for Residential Education. The Assistant Director serves on a 7-person leadership team to manage the day-to-day operations of a residential student success oriented residential living community. Along with two other Area Assistant Directors, they oversee approximately 6,400 students on campus in 16 residence halls. Supervise and evaluate graduate and entry-level staff members with oversight of area implementation of Residential Curriculum in their areas, including academic success initiatives for campus. Manage the day-to-day communication and operations of area operations, such as assisting with students of concern, facilities, and other student persistence emergencies. Serve as a member of the manager on call team to provide support and director to entry-level professional and graduate staff managing campus crisis and emergency situations. Serve as liaison between Residential Education and Housing on facilities, assignments, and other housing operations areas as it relates to duty response, openings, closings, and response to residential student needs and serve on departmental committees, workgroups, and task forces; option to serve on university-wide committees. Serve as support, and hearing officer when necessary for residential conduct cases in collaboration with Student Conduct and Ethical Development (SCED). Serve as essential personnel in emergency situations (hurricanes, pandemics, etc.). Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, minimum of 5 years of related exempt level experience, including 2 years’ experience managing exempt level employees. SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed: (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree; (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree; (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree; (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, or a closely related field and 4-7 years of experience in residence life is preferred (graduate experience not included).
