They envisioned a movement dedicated to “reaching and uplifting” the American people. On behalf of the organization, the Booths pledged to “go wherever we are needed, and do whatever comes to hand.” That declaration continues to guide Volunteers of America’s outreach efforts today. When Maud and Ballington Booth thought of names for their movement 125 years ago, one word remained prominent: “volunteer.” In those days, a volunteer was anyone who was committed to a mission or cause. Since its earliest days, when Volunteers of America brought food, medicine and comfort to people not served by other charities, volunteering has been instrumental in every aspect of the organization’s ministry of service We have an opening for a Full-Time and Part-Time Residential Monitor position at our Veteran’s Transitional Living facility . The Residential Monitor is responsible for monitoring the residents of the facility to ensure adequate supervision, support and safety at all times.
Responsibilities include:
1. Maintain the overall security and operational control of the facility. 2. Maintain chronological written records of events that occur during the shift, and document any unusual occurrences in the facility log book. 3. Complete statistical reports, daily census reports, incident reports and additional reports or forms deemed necessary. 4. Monitor resident and visitor movements inside and outside the facility. 5. Control contraband in the facility through general observation; this may include conducting searches as directed by the Program Director. 6. Randomly tour the facility and grounds at least hourly to ensure a high level of security; document these rounds in the facility log book. 7. Supervise the completion of daily chores by residents. 8. Participate and obtain certification in crisis management and first aid/CPR. 9. Answer incoming calls in a prompt and professional manner. 10. Immediately notify on-call staff of any emergency situations. 11. Assist in the serving of meals and maintenance of the facility as needed. Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience in a residential setting is preferred. This position requires the following skills and abilities: ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to show positive leadership; and ability to handle crisis situations in a calm fashion. Requires the flexibility to work evening and weekend hours. Veterans and formerly homeless veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
