Job Summary The Graduate Assistant serves as an active and visible residence hall staff member that participates and facilitates student development, community development, leadership development, activity development, administration, policy enforcement, crisis management and staff development. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Candidates should possess strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact with students, as well as have demonstrated experience and skills related to program development, student development and working with groups. Familiarity with residence hall systems and/or other education administration or management experience is strongly preferred. This requires up to 20 office hours per week in addition to evening and weekend work plus on-duty responsibilities. Essential Job Functions
- Supervises up to 6 undergraduate Resident Assistants and desk workers.
- Assists with the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of undergraduate staff.
- Promote and implement training sessions and in-services as well as ongoing staff development initiatives
- Assist the RCC in developing and coordinating programs for their respective hall with advice and assistance from staff, students, and hall government
- Build community utilizing the community development plan and programming model set forth by the department.
- Responsible for interpreting and upholding the university’s rules and regulations through upholding the University/Residence Life Handbook in a proactive and educational manner.
- Oversee the administrative tasks related to inventory, damage, billing, maintenance, keys, fire safety, health & safety inspections and building security.
- Participate in monthly Residence Life professional development workshops/training Qualifications Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in a degree granting program at Alcorn State University and or have received a Bachelor’s degree and an understanding of Residence Life and Housing.
While in the position, the Graduate Assistant must maintain a 3.0 or better and may have no more than 15 hours total of external commitments including but not limited to outside employment, organization involvement, athletic team participation, internships, external internships, etc. Posted Salary Range 10.00 per hour
