Pace University is looking for a highly motivated professional beginning their career in Student Affairs, or related fields, to fill our Assistant Residence Director position. This is an engaging and exciting position that will offer a great deal of experience to a professional who is ready to join our team. The Department of Residential Life and Housing at Pace University is committed to providing students with a supportive and inclusive-living environment that enriches their educational experience. This position is a part-time, 20 hours a week position supporting the Residence Director in the building.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop a sense of community throughout the residence hall through RA programs and office hours. Support the implementation of a residential curriculum in the assigned residence hall. Respond to student concerns and needs and provide effective support, referrals, and interventions as needed. Serves as a base-level hearing officer within the University’s student conduct process. Serves as co-advisor for the residence hall council. Facilitate and assist with weekly in-hall meetings with Resident Assistant staff. Co-facilitate workshops for Resident Assistant development and training. Facilitate 1:1’s with RA Staff Bi-Monthly. Assist with the coordination of building opening and closing procedures, as well as manage building room assignments, transfers, billing, and rosters. This is a part-time “live-in” position, which requires regular evening and weekend hours. This position will share a duty rotation as a first-level response professional staff member on duty during which they will be expected to respond on a 24-hour basis. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and protect the confidence of residents and colleagues. Other administrative duties as assigned.

Students University Relations Compensation:

$17/hr, 20hrs a week Furnished room with private bathroom at the assigned hall. Meal plan of $500 a semester; $1000 in total for the academic year.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree required , matriculating graduate student in student affairs program preferred, and one academic year experience in Student Affairs or related field. Must have demonstrated experience with student and community development, supervision, and crisis management. Applicants should possess a commitment and ability to create communities that are inclusive of diverse populations. Start and end dates vary based on the academic year; typical start date is August 1; typical end date is May 30. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong computer skills. A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent decision-making and judgment and will be a positive member of a larger housing staff team. Must be highly committed to student service and development. This is a live-in position that requires evening commitments. Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Must be able to handle confidential information in a discreet manner Strong written and verbal communication skills Reliable and patient with visitors Office experience a plus Ability to work independently Strong customer service and organizational skills Exact schedule to be determined with supervisor; no more than 20 hours per week when school is in session and no more than 35 hours per week during breaks.
