Primary Function of Organizational Unit The College of Education Future Teachers of North Carolina PIRATE program seeks to hire 5 Residence Life Coordinators to assist with the planning, development, and implementation of a three-day, two-night summer program called Pirate Institute for Regional Aspiring Teachers and Educators. During the PIRATE program, rising high school Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will participate in an immersive on-campus experience and learn about ECU, Teacher Education programs, and student life.
Job Duties Residence Life Coordinators will work with the PIRATE Program Director and other ECU Faculty and staff to administer the program. The program dates are June 18-20, 2025. Residence Life Coordinators will help lead summer sessions, facilitate team building activities, assist with program preparation and instruction, and oversee the safety and well-being of program participants. Residence Life Coordinators are required to stay in an ECU residence hall with program participants. Meals will be provided during in-person training and throughout the duration of the event.
Leadership & Supervision (70%)
The PIRATE Program Residence Life Coordinator will be charged with leading and organizing the supervision, guidance, organization, and activities for approximately 75 high school students who are interested in exploring a career in teaching/education. Plan and lead icebreaker, team building, and networking activities. Prepare program supplies and materials. Answer questions, provide guidance, and actively engage program participants. Perform other duties as needed/assigned. Facilitate discussions amongst program participants during sessions. Problem-solve and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Administration (20%)
The Residence Life Coordinator will communicate with ECU faculty, staff, and other campus partners, other Residence Life staff, program participants, parents, and PIRATE program administration. Complete required, mandatory training sessions. Provide customer service to program participants, families and guests during the program. Assist with program setup and check-in and closing activities. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism and appropriate office/business casual attire.
Management (10%)
Promote the PIRATE program via social media outlets and professional networks.
Contingent upon availability of funding.
Minimum Education/Experience Requires a Bachelor’s degree in education, teaching, or other related area.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Experience with teaching, instruction, developing and implementing leadership activities, program administration and oversight is desired. Good written and oral communication skills are preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
