Part-Time Garden Center Assistant Position Available In Charleston, South Carolina

Part-Time Garden Center Assistant East Bay True Value 1409 King St Extension, Charleston, SC 29403 Locally-owned, independent hardware store & garden center in downtown Charleston, SC is seeking a part-time Garden Center Assistant. Horticultural or nursery experience is preferred, but not required. This position is part-time, 20-28 hours per week, and Saturdays 8am-5pm are required. The ability to work Friday afternoons, or a full day on Friday, would be helpful. While this is a normally year-round position, the ability to work seasonally though August is an option, as well. The Garden Center Assistant must be able to regularly lift 60 lbs. and will be outside during the heat and humidity of summer, with regular breaks inside. This is a hot, sweaty job that requires lifting heavy objects, weeding, and working outside in a hot and humid environment. The Garden Center Assistant must be proactive and able to learn quickly. This person is expected to work independently after an initial training period.

Duties include:

Watering plants in the garden center and inside the store Weed the planters and garden center paths Loading large bags of mulch and soil into customer cars Organize soil rack & tidy bags of soil Move/relocate planters and plants around the garden center as needed Use blower on walkways and pick up scattered trash as needed Assist customers Take direction from the Garden Center Manager Perform daily checklist Employee is eligible for profit-sharing bonuses and the employee discount. The store has 2 cats that live on-site and customers are allowed to bring in leashed dogs. We are located on the neck near a bus stop and also provide complimentary on-site parking for employees. This person must be comfortable assisting customers and answering questions. For the right candidate, this position could possibly become full-time. A comprehensive background check will be run prior to employment.
