The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) is seekingservice-focused individuals for the position of Human Service Assistant(HSA). Our ideal candidate will provide written and oral translationservices to assist clients and complete administrative tasks in awell-organized, efficient manner. Duties andResponsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not allinclusive): Provide interpretation and translation services by gatheringinformation, providing instruction, and facilitating clear and accuratecommunication. Assist applicants and clients in completing and/orobtaining necessary verifications for eligibility determination.
Facilitate customer service delivery by providing services to clients,such as responding to inquiries and explaining basic departmentprocedures. Greet, inform, and direct clients in the lobbies, waitingrooms, and self-service stations. Promote customer service deliverythrough document processing and management. Convey information andexplain actions to clients with varying expectations, needs, cultures,and languages. Utilize Department systems and equipment, and provideongoing assistance and support to Benefits Eligibility and ReferralSocial Workers. Remain current and up to date with self-service options,including but not limited to kiosks, scanning, and Mobile apps. Exchangeinformation with internal and external contacts per existing departmentpolicies. Initiate new and replacement EBT Cards in BEACON. Provideadministrative support within the local office as assigned by thesupervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Excellent written and oralcommunication and reading comprehension skills. Excellent listeningskills, including the ability to ask questions to enhance communicationand understanding. Strong interpersonal skills, which demonstrate theability to work with diverse populations in multiple roles. Ability tohandle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and managehigh-stress situations in a professional manner. Ability to understandand apply policies and regulations. Ability to be flexible to respond tochanging requirements and priorities. Ability to handle multipleresponsibilities and meet various deadlines through strongorganizational and time management skills. Ability to read, write, andconverse with clients, colleagues, and external contacts in English anda second language. Two or more years of work experience, with writtenand oral translation duties, in social work or social casework, claimsadjudication, job placement, recruitment, employment counseling,vocational or rehabilitation counseling.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of specific local office procedures and requirements.
Knowledge of continuing changes in laws, rules, regulations, programs,policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelinesgoverning agency operations and assigned unit activities as they applyto this position. Knowledge of ongoing modifications in the types anduses of agency forms. High-level personal computer skills and morein-depth knowledge of various software options. Qualifications Firstconsideration will be given to those applicants that apply within thefirst 14 days.
