The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is committed to protecting and nurturing Mississippi’s at-risk children and families. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations; training; work planning, assignments, and review; and performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen. Participates in developing procedures and administrative policies and administering program budget. Responsibilities of Social Service Specialist in

Adoption:

Create and maintain case files for adoption; Complete the home study process in timely manner to meet all deadlines; Participate in weekly staffing with supervisors and regional staff meetings, as needed; Assist county workers when a child needs a placement; On-call for after-hours situations (rotating responsibility with other staff members); Communicate with families, service providers, parents, and the public; Communicate and coordinate with other units of the agency to serve children-in-care; Assist with shadowing new hires or showing job responsibilities to interns in the office; Attend and participate in court hearings, county conferences, Adoption Status Meetings and stakeholder meetings, as needed; “The incumbents receive training related to job content, and must pass a comprehensive test prior to continued employment and/or advancement.” What you’ll need to be Successful Professional commitment to and caring about clients and the larger profession of child welfare. Agency Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university In Social Work, Social Services, Psychology, Educational Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Family Studies, or a related field; and three (3) to five (5) years of experience and one (1) to three (3) years of supervisory experience. Appointing authority may require Master’s Degree.

  • Will also require Social Work License in the state of Mississippi.
