Position Summary
The Housing Specialist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, housing assignments, and student conduct within Reid State’s student housing developments. This individual ensures the creation and continuation of a clean, safe, engaging, and respectful living environment, balancing administrative duties with a strong focus on student development, success and conflict resolution. The Housing Specialist reports directly to the Dean of Students.
Salary Commensurate with education and experience according to ACCS Board of Trustees Salary Schedule E3/04. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee and initiate the development, promotion, strategic planning and supervision for all student housing staff and activities, including working alongside college departments, partners and stakeholders to develop a student housing munity”.
Supervise and manage daily operations of residence assistants, assistant managers and all other student housing staff, ensuring the Reid State culture of facilities that are clean, safe, and operational.
Manage resident assistants and assistant managers and all other student housing staff to ensure facilities are clean, safe and operational.
Promote and provide ongoing training, support and performance evaluations of assigned staff, promoting a positive student housing culture that includes staff team-building activities, workshops and regular staff meetings.
Collaborate with security, maintenance and housekeeping departments to address building-related safety and housekeeping concerns.
Serve as the primary contact for emergencies and crises within the residence halls, including responding to and managing situations involving student safety, health, or misconduct. Be available for after-hour emergencies and reports, including evenings and weekends.
Coordinate housing assignments and room changes, manage occupancy levels, and resolve housing-related issues.
In direct collaboration with the Dean of Students, manage the student conduct process in student halls, including investigation of policy violations, conducting hearings, and enforcing sanctions.
Serve as a resource and provide guidance to students and staff regarding personal, academic, or social issues that may affect their student life experience.
Maintain accurate records related to housing assignments, conduct cases, and staff schedules, andpile reports and provide data analysis on housing occupancy, conduct cases, and other relevant areas.
Assist in budget management and allocation for student housing programs and activities.
Work closely with other departments (e.g., student affairs, campus safety, counseling services) to ensure holistic support for students living in residence halls.
Act as a student advocate and liaison between residents and Dean of Students, advocating for student needs and concerns.
Maintain a strong understanding of conflict resolution, student conduct processes, and crisis management.
Excellentmunication,anizational, and interpersonal skills.
In collaboration with Public Relations and the Dean of Students, promote student housing activities utilizing a variety ofmunication methods, including but not limited to TargetX (CRM), email, flyers, calendars and newsletters.
Foster a customer service environment and develop/incorporate service opportunities for fellow employees, students, and visitors into the Student Housing Activities Calendar each semester.
Assist with SACSCOC and COE off-site campuspliance related to equal access to student housing.
Develop, direct, evaluate, and refine all student housing activities, calendars, events and systems in coordination with Reid State’s brand, image and standards.
Develop and conduct an annual survey system andprehensive evaluations among students, faculty and staff to assess the success of student housing and activities offered.
Collaborate across campus for feedback and implementation of student housing ideas and semester calendars. Maintain a general knowledge of other College policies and procedures.
Participate in annual planning and evaluation sessions, professional development, staff andmittee meetings in support of the College’s vision, statement of purpose, and institutional goals and objectives.
Visits classes upon request to promote student housing and dining services. Facilitate and oversee facilitation of educational programs on topics such as conflict resolution,munity living, code of conduct academic focus, and overall student life experience.
Demonstrate ethical behavior, loyalty, honesty, and integrity, both on and off the campus. Perform other duties as assigned by the President and Dean of Students.
Qualifications
Minimum associate degree from a regionally accredited college or institution is required; bachelor’s or Master’s in management, education, business or a related field is strongly preferred.
Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a fast-paced residential or business office required; previous residence hall, student activities, Title IX or management experience is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required. Ability to multi-task, prioritize objectives and demonstrate good conflict resolution, time-management andanization skills is required. Ability to problem-solve and to professionally work alongside students and stakeholders who have a variety of personalities and backgrounds is required. Ability to work collaboratively and independently is required. Experience in dealing with sensitive and personal information regarding student conduct and/or Title IX, and inpliance with FERPA and overall confidentiality, is required. Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) and data systems and software such as, but not limited to, Banner, NeoEd, and Salesforce/TargetX, is preferred.
Excellent interpersonal andmunications skills are required.
Minimum working knowledge of local, state and nationalmunity college housing issues; academic and student development programs; federal and state reporting; accreditation requirements; and institutional effectiveness is required.
Ability to respond to emergencies during evening and weekend hours is required.
Limiting Requirements
Manual dexterity and ability to perform extensive and prolonged data entry.
Ability to lift boxes weighing approximately 20-30 lb.
