  • Position SummaryReporting to the executive director, the houseparent position performs guardian functions for either male and/or female youth clients.

Duties include non-clinical counseling, house rules enforcement, and overall health and well-being of youth residing in the home. Position serves as a liaison between clients and case workers, probation officers, and others and maintains certain confidential client records. In addition, employee transports clients to/from school, court, jobs, and other required appointments/meetings.

Position ResponsibilitiesA.In-House

  • Enforces house rules
  • Responsible for clients at all times
  • Provides in-house mentoring for the youth
  • Oversees the client’s personal hygiene
  • Works as a liaison between case workers or probation officers and clients
  • Schedules daily client responsibilities
  • Performs all intake and discharge procedures of clients
  • Maintains daily journal of clients
  • Maintains daily, weekly, and monthly required forms for licensing
  • Provides the executive director with all incident reports regarding clients
  • Registers youth for school and other programs/classes (when applicable).B. Client Transportation
  • Transports clients to and from school and school activities
  • Transports clients to and from court hearings
  • Transports clients to and from various jobs (when applicable)
  • Transports clients to and from appointments (e.g., mental health, dental).C. Property and Home Maintenance
  • Enforces all safety rules and regulations set forth by fire marshals and health departments
  • Maintains clean and safe environment; maintains the grounds, and all adequate requirements to meet licensing standards
  • Maintains all food orders for the home and prepares all meals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (

  • Italicized taught on the job/on-job training)
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) skills.

oWriting skills to neatly and correctly complete reports, forms, lists, etc.oPublic speaking abilityReading skills to read and understand reports, rules, regulations, etc.

Math skills to perform basic mathematical operations.

Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

General housekeeping.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the agency’s policies, procedures, regulations, and safety rules.
  • Ability to supervise clients in a residential setting to create a harmonic living among residents.
  • Ability to recognize and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of basic behavior modification techniques.
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities to clients.
  • Ability to follow nutritional guidelines as needed in the preparation of meals.
  • Position Requirements
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and non-standard hours as needed
  • Ability to travel to attend workshops, seminars, conferences, etc
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license
  • Education and experience needed to perform essential job functions
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred“`{=html}“
  • Ability to perform physical demands of the position.

  • Criminal background check and DHR CAN Registry clearance
