Full Job Description Position Overview:

The Peer Specialist will monitor and provide support to families who have an active Present Danger Safety Plan with the Department of Children & Families. The Peer Specialist will function as an advocate in assisting families to successfully engage in services recommended.

Essential Job Functions:

 Contact families within 24 hours of case assignment.  Thoroughly review and become familiar with the Intake Report and Safety Plan of families assigned.  Conduct announced and unannounced visits to families, two to three times per week, per family, within Miami-Dade County.  Document all contacts with or on behalf of families in the FSFN portal within 24 hours of the provision of services.  Attend weekly supervision sessions with Program Director and Supervisor to staff cases and communicate family’s needs, barriers to services, resources and compliance with the Safety Plan.  Join 14-day staffing Zoom meetings together with Citrus FCN staff, DCF and community service providers to provide input based on family engagement.  Maintain appropriate positive, professional interpersonal relationships with families, co-workers, and employees of partner agencies.  Share experiences, skills, programs, resources and services used by Peer Specialists to assist families in becoming resourceful and to improve the wellbeing of the family.  Attend and participate in professional development training courses as required.  Attain CRPS certification by the Florida Certification Board within 1 year of employment.

Requirements:

 High School Diploma is required. Bachelor’s degree in health care, human services, public health, social services preferred, but not required.  Certified Recovery Peer Specialist designation preferred, but not required – can be attained during the 1 st year of employment.  Able to work with diverse families, including families diagnosed with mental health, substance abuse, and child welfare challenges.  Must pass a level 2 background screening.  Must be willing to work some weekends and evenings.  Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must speak English and Spanish.  Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, good driving record and automobile insurance for travel Miami-Dade County with mileage reimbursement provided  Must have experience with mental health, substance abuse and/or child welfare related services or have personally been the recipient of said services.  If in recovery, should be for a minimum of one year demonstrated by an effort of self-directed recovery.
