POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the recruitment, training, retention, and supervision of volunteers to assist employees in the efficient running of the facility, related events, and programs. Maintains volunteer records and coordinates volunteer schedules. Prepares department reports and builds relationships with the community to attract volunteers. Oversee volunteers and provide direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions. This role ensures that volunteers are effectively utilized, engaged, and supported in their roles to achieve the organization’s mission and goals. The Volunteer Coordinator supports the Company’s efforts to cultivate community involvement and support for the organization’s mission and programs.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct volunteer orientation sessions, shelter tours, and volunteer shift trainings, assuring that all aspects of the training are in accordance with the corresponding department, organization’s mission and philosophy. Screens and reviews all volunteer applications. Maintains online database and records of volunteers including skills and specializations. Oversee volunteers in performance of duties providing them with continuous feedback and special guidance when requested or required. Develops and implements volunteer recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies. Regularly updates and reviews the volunteer handbook, training materials, shift descriptions, and department forms and works with the Volunteer Services Manager for updates. Prepare statistics for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Cultivates and maintains relationships with all shelter volunteers, including prospective volunteers. Monitor and evaluate the volunteer program’s effectiveness and impact on organizational goals. Enlists volunteers to sign up for special events and community outreach initiatives by recommending assignments that will make the best use of their individual talents. Facilitates corporate volunteer group days at the shelter and leads group tours.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree or 1-3 years of pertinent experience such as community organization work, public relations, recreation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in recruiting, training and managing volunteers or equivalent experience. Proficiency in the English language. Ability to plan, organize and direct a volunteer program and integrate the services of volunteers with established activities. Ability to work independently and in groups to bring a project to completion within deadlines. Skills in facilitating partnerships, developing collaborative projects, and prioritizing and managing multiple tasks. Highly organized with excellent oral and written communications skills as well as strong customer service ability. Ability to speak with ease to small/large audiences to conduct orientation sessions, shelter tours, specialized trainings, and any impromptu presentations. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed. Sympathetic and objective understanding of other people. Must be tactful, patient, and diplomatic. Experience in computer skills specifically with Microsoft Office applications and data reporting. Speak and write effectively and clearly in a professional manner. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting and carrying animals and equipment over 50 pounds. Walking, standing, sitting for prolonged periods depending on the task. Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, squatting, and stooping to care for animals and clean areas. Work environments include both indoor and outdoor areas, with potential exposure to animal allergens, odors, cleaning agents, and various weather conditions.
