Outreach Full-Time Summary:
The Shower Outreach Specialist (SOS) provides direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness, often facing trauma, addiction, mental illness, or other challenges. The SOS offers assistance in a respectful and non-judgmental manner, embodying CSAH’s core values of compassion, integrity, and unity. This role promotes the Housing First Philosophy, which empowers individuals to believe in their potential and success. The SOS is responsible for engaging clients from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating strong interpersonal communication skills, and being organized and self-directed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree is preferred in social work or a related human services field preferred. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with at least one year of experience driving a large vehicle preferred. Demonstrated experience providing direct services to vulnerable populations. Ability to establish cooperative relationships with colleagues and service providers. Capable of lifting to 50 lbs . , navigating uneven terrain, and working around water. Ability to manage client crises and knowledge of community resources. Computer proficiency required. Ability to model professional behavior and encourage colleague development. Basic knowledge of hygiene and sanitation procedures. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments. Must be able to work in inclement weather. Must have a clean MVR.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist the Shower manager with the set up and break down of the mobile shower unit. Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance issues to the shower manager. Unload grey water and refill water tanks as needed. Collect signatures and accurately enter participant data into the HMIS system. Welcome and assist participants with accessing the mobile shower unit, providing towels, toiletries, and other necessary items. Maintain and manage the inventory of shower supplies, ensuring the unit is always stocked and ready for service. Order and replenish shower necessities as needed. Clean and sanitize the shower rooms and facilities after each use. Ensure a safe environment for all clients and staff during service provision. Work in inclement weather when necessary, ensuring services are provided consistently. Connect clients with additional support services like housing assistance, food programs, and healthcare. Collaborate with other service providers to offer onsite resources and services. Promote hygiene education by educating participants on proper hygiene and showering practices. Maintain confidentiality and respect clients’ privacy and dignity at all times. Maintain demographic and statistical documentation, including monthly reports on services provided, client demographics, and performance measures. Assist with quality assurance, including administering and collecting client satisfaction surveys and conducting internal evaluations. Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional development opportunities as required. Perform other duties as assigned.
