Willing to travel to Cherokee, Dekalb, Gwinnett and Fulton County The family support specialist can provide multiple services which include providing support as a behavior aide or parent aide to children, youth and families referred by the Department of Family & Children Services. The goal of DFCS supportive services is to stabilize and help families in need of intervention by providing education, training, support through one on one or group education and providing referrals to community-based resources. DFCS Family Support Specialist Objective:

DFCS family support specialist is an educator and mentor who strengthens the parent-child bond, reduces social isolation, assists in building trust, teaches appropriate discipline, and assists parents in identifying their children’s needs and ways to respond to those needs for families involved with the Department of Family and Children Services. Family support specialists will also provide one on one skill-building services and behavior aide services to children and youth.

DFCS Family Support Specialist Job Role & Responsibilities:

Teach behavior management, budgeting skills, communication skills, environmental skills, parenting education, and parenting skills Implements interventions outlined in the individualized treatment plan Provide one on one skill building lessons to youth Intervenes as needed when behavior problems are exhibited by the child or youth Provide community resource information Help parents become involved in supportive activities Provide training and support to families by using positive reinforcement and coordinating access to critical resources Able to teach using curriculum for one on one or group sessions Provide occasional transportation

DFCS Family Support Specialist Education & Experience Requirements:

HS Diploma/GED & 5 years of Human service experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Service field and 3-4 years of human services experience required OR Masters Degree in Human Services & experience in completing workshops, presentations, groups
