Job Description
Shelter Supervisor 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars Jackson, MS 39202 Overview The Shelter Supervisor has responsibility for managing the operations of Matt’s House Emergency Shelter for Women and Children. Flexible scheduling during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Flex scheduling is required to ensure after-hours crisis line and shelter coverage is provided 24/7 all year round. Some overtime may be necessary to cover gaps in shifts. Responsibilities/Duties as they relate to
Matt’s House:
Ensures that a safe, clean, and welcoming atmosphere is provided for all clients. Monitors client activities and shelter operations during shift. Answer crisis calls and follows established procedures for crisis intervention, intakes, safety planning and referrals; Adheres to a flexible schedule to meet program needs and assist with 24/7 operations. Completes client admission intakes, facilitates client orientation, assign room, and ensure all necessary admittance forms are complete. Assists in maintaining shelter, including food, cleaning supplies, bedding, as well as receiving requisitions and assisting in keeping the inventory for the shelter. Completes mandatory documentation such as Shift Reports (daily log), Crisis call log, activity reports, room and bed log, and cleaning check list. Assign and supervise client chore assignment. Conducts room inspections and inventory. Performs duties as needed, to assist with cleanliness and orderliness of shelter facility.
Experience/Knowledge:
High School diploma or GED and at least five (5) years of work experience. Must have good communication skills to work with individuals in crisis situations. Knowledge of general office operation procedures, answering telephones and use of office equipment.
Skills/Abilities:
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must possess skills to be empathetic, nonjudgmental, supportive, respectful, and empowering in working with clients. Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to respond to crisis situations effectively and appropriately. Ability to work collaboratively with agency programs and organizations outside the agency. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work both independently and in a team environment. This position is essential for fostering a supportive atmosphere within the shelter while ensuring the highest standards of care are met.
