Position Summary The Child Life Specialist III delivers quality patient care utilizing basic clinical skills and knowledge for patients under the ages of 21. He/she is able to foster clinical growth of other staff through educational efforts. She/he is able to identify needs of population and to implement strategies to address those identified needs. Work is with inpatients and outpatients for whom hospital confinement and medical procedures can be threatening and result in social withdrawal, maladjustive behavior, and other psychosocial complications. Work involves striving to promote the optimum development of children, adolescents, and families utilizing developmental approaches while minimizing the negative aspects of hospitalization. Minimum Requirements College Degree (4 yrs.) BS/BA is required- or higher. Child Life Certification is required. At least five years of experience required. Demonstration of competency in basic Child Life practice and mastery in the use of therapeutic play and interventions, Maintains certification as available as a Child Life Specialist through the Child Life Certifying Commission, BS/BA in Child Development, Child Life, or related field, Strong knowledge of child development and current development theories and research as well as impact of hospitalization on children and families, Ability to establish rapport with patients, families, physicians, students, volunteers, staff, and public, Interest in children, ability to deal with chronically-ill children and experience with medical play is desirable, Maintains Clinical Ladder Level for Child Life Specialist III as stated in Clinical Ladder Policy and Procedure .
