Community Prevention and Intervention SpecialistPay:
$21.00 – $23.00 per hourExpected hours: 20 30 per weekUnder the supervision of the Prevention Supervisor, the Prevention Specialist will utilize the Strategic Prevention Framework, Risk and Protective Factor framework, and Community Schools model to support and participate in initiatives that strengthen school programming and school connectedness, focus on student health and well-being, and strengthen families and neighborhoods in rural towns within Livingston County. The Prevention specialist is responsible for working with the school and community to identify existing assets for positive development and create collaborations to identify strategies for change. They will connect with school administration, staff, and community members to assess needs or gaps in services and develop a plan for programs and strategy implementation, focusing on rural areas within the county. This will include the implementation, development, and management of community and schools activities, events, programs, and services that lead to healthy and successful children, strong families, and a thriving community. The Prevention Specialist will gain new partnerships with other organizations, healthcare facilities and nonprofits to increase Evidence Based Programming throughout the county. The Prevention Specialist may contribute and facilitate various community programs and school-based programs while also providing on-site substance misuse prevention services, consulting services, interventions and provide current knowledge and expertise in substance misuse prevention, education, and environmental strategies. Facilitating individual, small group or classroom size programs to students and community members. The Prevention Specialist will also work on general awareness campaigns promoting healthy childhood development, resilience, and ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) education. The Prevention Specialist will also be responsible for working outreach and tabling events that promote the goals and align with the organizations mission. Outreach and tabling events or projects may take place during the early evenings and/or on a weekend. The Prevention Specialist will serve as the main person attending and promoting outreach and tabling events with support from other team members.
EDUCATIONRequired Bachelors DegreeField Education, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Social Services, Human Services, and Social Work, Community Health or related field.
EXPERIENCEPreferred:
Substance misuse and/or public health prevention with competency using Evidence Based Programs/Strategies. Work with community coalitions/committees.
Additional acceptable experience:
youth counseling in mental health or substance abuse service environment.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children, students, families and senior population is requiredMust have the ability to demonstrate significant knowledge of positive youth development, asset development, risk reduction, and protective factors
