Job Description
Volunteer Coordinator Confidential Bethpage, NY 11714 A non-profit victim services agency in Nassau County is seeking a committed and organized Volunteer Coordinator to oversee its Rape Crisis Program. This position is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and supporting a team of volunteer rape crisis counselors who provide 24/7 in-person advocacy and emotional support to survivors of sexual assault during Sexual Assault Forensic Exams (SAFEs) at hospitals throughout Nassau County.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruit, screen, and onboard new volunteer rape crisis counselors. Coordinate and lead a 40-hour state-certified Rape Crisis Counselor training program multiple times per year. Manage 24/7 on-call scheduling to ensure continuous volunteer coverage at local hospitals. Provide ongoing supervision, debriefing, and support to volunteers following crisis response calls. Ensure volunteer compliance with agency policies, confidentiality guidelines, and certification requirements. Maintain relationships with hospital personnel, SANE nurses, and law enforcement to support a coordinated, survivor-centered response. Track volunteer hours, maintain detailed records, and compile data for reports to funders and agency leadership. Participate in community outreach, awareness campaigns, and events related to sexual violence prevention and response.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Prior experience working with survivors of sexual assault, in crisis intervention, or managing volunteer programs strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and motivate volunteers. Knowledge of sexual assault response protocols, trauma-informed care, and hospital advocacy. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support volunteers and cover urgent needs. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Work Environment:
This is a full-time, in-person position based in Nassau County. The role includes a mix of office work, travel to local hospitals, and participation in evening/weekend on-call rotations as needed.
