Job Responsibilities
About Whitten Regional Center
Whitten Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Conducts reviews of all cases of abuse, neglect, exploitation, deaths and critical incidents. Submits required reports/notifications in compliance with agency and Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) requirements. Manages consumer admission/discharge process at a DDSN Operated ICF. Functions as the liaison, in conjunction with Facility Administrator and Assistant Facility Administrator, with consumer families to address concerns and complaints so that resolution is achieved.
1. Serves as the Abuse Coordinator and is the facility’s contact for DDSN Risk Management, SLED and Long-Term Care Ombudsman for people served by DDSN. Coordinates on-site Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation (ANE) investigations with DDSN Risk Management, SLED and Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Conducts on-site Critical Incident Investigations, death reports, and other incidents as needed for people served by DDSN. 2. Reviews and approves all General Event Report (GER) reports addressing consumer incidents and injuries. Reviews related Inter-Disciplinary Team follow up actions and makes recommendations as appropriate.
3. Coordinates admissions, discharges or respite care requests for a Regional Center. Facilitates admission meetings and monitors the discharge process. Pursues and documents consumer screenings/interviews for alternate placement. Maintains current and accurate information required to complete Olmstead reports.
4. Serves as the Consumer Advocate for the regional center. Provides assistance and guides family members in the resolution of concerns working through existing procedures. Trains new employees on abuse, improper conduct, consumer rights and confidentiality.
5. Supervises Unified Records clerk and the safe keeping/maintenance of consumer records.
6. Participates as a member of the Executive Committee, Risk Management Committee and other committees/projects as assigned by the Facility Administrator. Serves as the chairperson for the Abuse Prevention Committee.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities or other developmental disabilities.
