Clinical insight: Strong assessment skills and understanding of recovery and therapeutic interventions Group facilitation: Proven ability to lead psycho-educational and therapeutic groups Relationship builder: Ability to form productive therapeutic alliances with clients The Stonybrook Stabilization & Treatment Center is not your average substance use disorder treatment facility. Created by Sheriff Nick Cocchi in 2018 to help people battling addiction, the opening of the facility more than doubled the number of treatment beds in the western half of Massachusetts. Although the facility is operated under the umbrella of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office, it is a standalone facility with specially-trained treatment staff. The Stonybrook Stabilization and Treatment Center provides evidence-guided, trauma-informed, and family-focused medically-managed withdrawal and post-withdrawal care in Ludlow, Massachusetts. Psycho-educational programs draw from proven models with

participants, scaled for appropriate engagement in the weeks following withdrawal. The clients are admitted to the facility under the Commonwealth’s Section 35 law, which provides a way to commit someone for treatment under certain conditions relative to their substance use. The commitment lasts from 30 to 90 days, depending upon the outcome of regular reviews but our average length of stay is around 50 days, which provides a solid amount of time to adequately prepare someone for success in their journey toward long-term recovery.
