This position participates in the planning, participation, and follow-up of caseload duties/responsibilities of individuals undergoing treatment for a substance use disorder(s). Essential Functions Provides clinical consultation (input, guidance strategies etc.) to SU Clinical Counselor II (provisionally licensed staff and/or certified SA Counselor) as part of ensuring clinical oversight, assistance to program SA Team Lead and best practice according to DMA’s Supervision requirements/availability to other team members Demonstrates a working knowledge of the 12 Core Functions of Substance Use Use of evidence based/best practice modalities and treatment approaches Working knowledge and ability to implement Cognitive Behavioral Interventions, use of Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Thinking/Planning to guide treatment Facilitates participant therapy groups, family sessions, and individual counseling Presenting didactic/lecture psychoeducation Provides orientation to new participants beginning treatment Able to conduct/facilitate Clinical Assessments and Clinical Updates for the purpose of treatment recommendations Able to develop a participant driven aftercare plan that transitions/discharges participants to least restrictive/higher level of care as needed Develop and facilitate family programming for participants and other supports Maintain daily progress notes and other clinical administrative tasks for ensuring clinical compliance Able to meet and maintain productivity standards set forth for the department To participate in ongoing trainings/seminars for enhancing professional growth. Each counselor is required to seek out those trainings for growth areas and outside of scope of practice Account accurately times sheets, vacation/leave request, and other reports required for program/department for statistical data and tracking outcomes Being reliable by arriving to work on time, attending meetings on time, and communicating any delays in arrival Coordinate/collaborate with other providers/stakeholders involved in care of participant by facilitating minimum bi-weekly contacts. This may include attending court, treatment team meeting, submission of reports/written updates, and other required meetings Abiding by all HIPAA rules and regulations and all state laws outlined for substance use treatment; this means maintaining the highest and following the strictest laws of confidentiality state and federally Provide and assist in program development and daily operations Provide supervision for interns as assigned by SA Team Lead Technical Skills
- Specialized knowledge of screening, intake, and orientation functions within the agency
- Ability to determine appropriate level of care needed for participants
- Proficiency in assessing participants’ strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences for formulating and implementing treatment plans
- Utilization of individual counseling techniques and group therapy dynamics to facilitate participant awareness, insight, and behavioral changes
- Case management skills in coordinating participant services and referrals with internal and external resources
- Familiarity with laws, rules, and confidentiality regulations related to substance use and participant rights
- General working knowledge of maintaining participant records and correspondence
- Understanding of organizational policies and procedures
- Demonstrated emotional stability and ability to exhibit appropriate professional behavior and leadership qualities
- Reports directly to the SA Team Lead, with clinical oversight from the Clinical Director and the Leadership Team. Employability Skills

- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in a human service (or related) field from a state-accredited school
- Two years of direct experience in the delivery of substance use treatment or equivalent education/experience
- Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist status
