This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of young adults and adults striving for long-term recovery from substance and alcohol use. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive mental health services to a caseload of 10-15 clients, facilitating their journey to wellness with professionalism and empathy. As an integral part of our treatment team, the therapist will conduct weekly individual sessions, develop and update treatment plans, and administer a variety of clinical assessments, including ASAM/Locus, Biopsychosocial, and others necessary for intake processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in obtaining informed consent for procedures, treatments, and research, as appropriate. Assist in developing and updating treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the interdisciplinary team. Support patients in setting and achieving discharge goals and objectives. Educate patients on relapse warning signs and collaborate on individualized relapse prevention plans. Conduct and document individual and group counseling sessions, using clinical insight to support treatment goals. Provide group psychotherapy tailored to patients’ treatment needs. Record patient progress or regression clearly, concisely, and timely in accordance with policies and procedures. Attend and actively participate in daily staff meetings and treatment team meetings, providing input on patient care. Facilitate team-based discharge planning and coordinate with medical staff and other disciplines as needed. Maintain working knowledge of program policies, procedures, and legal guidelines including the Baker Act. Uphold professional standards, modeling maturity, objectivity, and positive behavior in high-stress situations. Participate in ongoing professional development through educational courses and in-service training. Demonstrate adaptability in changing work settings and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Respond appropriately and effectively in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of patients and staff. Report any violations of patient rights promptly. Engage in Performance Improvement activities to support quality care and service delivery. 10:161B-1.9

Counseling Staff Job Description Responsibilities:

d. Each substance abuse counselor shall be responsible for the following: 1. Assessing the counseling needs of the clients; 2. Assessing clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool, and diagnosing clients for substance use disorder using the

DSM-IV TR

; 3. Determining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Patient Placement Criteria (PPC2-R); 4. Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode; 5. Unless clinically contraindicated, collaborating with the client to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives, and is client centered, recovery oriented; i. The director of substance abuse counseling shall develop, monitor and provide the client and treatment team a written schedule to update each client treatment plan(s) in order to ensure clients’ needs are met; 6. Providing the substance abuse counseling services specified in the client treatment plan; 7. Reviewing clients throughout the treatment episode according to the ASAM PPC2-R, to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer; 8. Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the client treatment plan to address ongoing problems; 9. Developing a client discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care; 10. Contact, case consultation if necessary, and coordination with referral sources, (for example, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, DYFS); 11. Participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients; 35. Providing active case consultation; and 13. Documenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the client’s clinical record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.

Qualifications:

A master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field. Valid New Jersey state license as a professional mental health therapist (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LAC, LSW). Specialized training or certification in co-occurring disorders and substance abuse treatment. Proficiency in conducting ASAM/Locus assessments and other clinical evaluations. Strong documentation skills, with the ability to maintain timely and accurate records. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for aiding individuals in recovery. Knowledge of the compliance regulations and accreditation requirements for substance abuse treatment facilities. Experience in crisis intervention and the ability to maintain a calm, therapeutic presence in challenging situations.
