Substance Abuse Counselor

REPORTS TO

Program Director

REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma/GED

CASAC /CASAC-T GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Counsel, teach and support clients in their understanding of substance abuse and Harm Reduction or abstinence goals.

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain responsibility for assigned clients with respect to substance abuse services. 2. Attend unit meetings weekly. 3. Meet with assigned clients, at their residence, at a frequency prescribed by Program Director. 4. Contribute Substance Abuse goals/objectives to client service plans. 5. Document all contact with clients in billable progress notes at a frequency determined by service plan objectives. 6. Teach clients a broad array of coping mechanisms to avoid or delay use. 7. Help clients identify triggers for use. 8. Conduct substance abuse groups weekly and document in group notes. 9. Assess clients for other treatment needs (e.g., inpatient detox, rehab, long-term MICA programs) as instructed by Program Director. 10. Facilitate referrals to other treatment programs. 11. Attend weekly (?) unit meetings to collaborate with other staff for clients. 11. Facilitate transfer to a substance abuse program by presence at time. 12. Establish and maintain contact with staff at programs to which clients have been referred. 13. Participate in agency annual anti-sexual harassment training.
