The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients.
For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds. Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center is a Certified National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site. Substance Use Counselor

Duties:
The counselor provides assessment and treatment as well as education and training to clients and their families. The appropriate candidate has experience working with clients with co-occurring mental illness. Specifically, the substance use counselor will be responsible for: Conducting substance use assessments and comprehensive psychosocial evaluations. Meeting with clients for ongoing individual counseling Leading group counseling sessions Providing crisis intervention as needed. Providing psychoeducation to clients and their family members Maintain case records in EHR to ensure continued treatment planning, referrals, and follow up Providing referrals to other providers within the agency and outside agencies as needed and monitoring clients’ compliance with referral. Coordinating client care with other behavioral health care providers including psychiatrists, behavioral health therapists, case managers and primary and specialty care providers. Other responsibilities as needed.
