Drug & Alcohol Counselor I Town of Babylon, Beacon Family Wellness Center North Babylon, NY 11703 The Town of Babylon Division of Drug and Alcohol Services, Beacon Family Wellness Center provides comprehensive, affordable, and accessible chemical dependency treatment services to residents. We are an OASAS-certified outpatient program looking for a full-time drug and alcohol counselor. •This is a provisional position. The candidate must take, pass, and be reachable on the Drug and Alcohol Counselor I civil service exam through the Town of Babylon when given in order to maintain employment.

Responsibilities:

Conduct screenings and evaluations for individuals presenting with drug and alcohol use disorders, or family members impacted by a loved one’s substance use. Counsel individuals in relation to drug and alcohol use through the use of individual, group, and family therapy. Facilitate psychoeducational groups pertaining to substance use and related issues. Complete documentation and maintain records on assigned caseloads. Coordinate with outside referral sources, mandating agencies, and treatment providers.

Requirements:

Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor’s Degree, and one (1) year of counseling in drug and/or alcohol abuse or Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with an Associate’s Degree, and three (3) years of counseling in drug and/or alcohol abuse or Registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports •Graduate education in social work or substance abuse counseling will be substituted for experience described in a) on a year-for-year basis. This position is part of the New York State Retirement System. •This is a provisional position.
