The primary purpose of the rehabilitation counselor is to assist individuals with disabilities in achieving their career and independent living goals by providing counseling, developing individualized plans, and coordinating services to help clients overcome barriers to their disabilities and/or obtain and maintain gainful employment.

Job responsibilities include the following:

Evaluating professional diagnostic data to determine eligibility and required rehabilitation services
Develop a written plan of services in conjunction with the consumer, parent and/or guardian
Provide rehabilitation services within the context of a guidance and counseling relationship and provide supportive counseling
Monitor the consumer’s progress throughout the service delivery process
Work directly with community partners in order to assist individuals with disabilities in becoming suitably employed
Document service delivery and case progress in the case management system as required by agency policy

  • Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements: Retention Bonus Eligibility – Only probationary, permanent, or time-limited employees may be eligible for sign-on or retention bonuses.

Probationary, permanent, or time-limited employees may be eligible for a retention bonus if: The employee has not received in the last 24 months any retention or sign-on bonuses that total more than $2,500 from any agency for the job classification in which they are working. The limit counts all bonuses awarded over a 24-month period as of the bonus award date and counts these as if all installments are complete. (This 24-month period can be waived with OSHR approval) and the employee’s overall performance evaluation rating is at least “Meets Expectations,” and the employee does not have an active disciplinary action. Employees eligible for a retention bonus must work at least 20 hours per week. Bonuses for eligible employees working in part-time positions will be prorated based on hours worked.

  • Retention Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of completion of trainee progression.

Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted up accordingly when the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
