Classroom Instructor for PORT Residential Program Iowa City Community School District – 4.1 Greenville, NC Job Details Full-time $30 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification Addiction counseling Teaching Certification Mid-level High school diploma or GED Education Bachelor’s degree First Aid Certification Counseling Social Work Communication skills Teaching Full Job Description The classroom instructor position for the PORT Youth Residential program is a part-time, contract position for the 2025-26 school year. This position is paid at $30/hour for four hours per day, five days a week.

Key Responsibilities Facilitate Classes:

Plan and lead engaging educational sessions on topics such as GED preparation, basic literacy, math, life skills, and/or vocational training.

Support Recovery:

Integrate recovery principles into classroom activities, fostering a positive, supportive, and nonjudgmental learning environment.

Individualized Instruction:

Assess students’ academic levels and learning needs; adapt instruction to accommodate diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Collaboration:

Work closely with clinical and residential staff to support students’ overall treatment and recovery plans. Works closely with the school of origin to assist with admission process and transition to PORT school including access to online learning portals.

Progress Monitoring:

Track and report student attendance, participation, and progress; provide feedback and encouragement.

Classroom Management:

Maintain a structured, respectful classroom atmosphere that promotes learning and personal growth and mirrors the treatment environment.

Documentation:

Complete required documentation, including lesson plans, progress notes, and incident reports, in a timely and accurate manner.

Professional Development:

Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development as required. attend training and learning opportunities provided by the PORT program to gain knowledge about students being served and/or specific characteristics of the student population including students with mental health and substance use disorders. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (required); teaching certification required. Experience working with individuals in substance abuse recovery or similar populations is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to teach and motivate adult learners from diverse backgrounds. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Background check and drug screening required.
